What is A Face Lift?

A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a procedure performed that improves the visible signs of aging in the face and around the neck. Due to the excessive amount of relaxation in the face, the skin begins to fall. Usually, some factors that are involved with the loosening of skin in and around the face are thinning of the skin, loss of facial fat due to age, sun damage, etc.

Many women get a multiple procedure surgery done along with their facelift, including but not limited to, brow lifts and eyelid surgery. This can prevent multiple anesthesia injections and multiple recovery sessions. Rhytidectomy is described as a restorative surgery- it does not stop aging and will not change your fundamental appearance. Many plastic surgeons fail to truly deliver beautiful results as they ignore the fundamental measurements and surgical techniques that drive the success of the procedure. Dr. Roth has excelled in both areas and thus helps patients who come from all over the world to seek his expertise in his downtown Houston surgical center.

Why is Dr. Roth the Ideal Choice for Your Facelift Surgery in Houston

Facelift surgery can be performed using a number of variations to meet your goals. A facelift can be performed to subtly treat certain areas of the face, or to create a more comprehensive, overall improvement.

Mini facelift

For younger patients in their 30s and 40s who are just beginning to show signs of aging, a mini face lift can be a great surgical option. The mini facelift relies on smaller incisions to address the lower portion of the face, while still creating an overall improved look.

Mid Facelift

A mid-facelift can effectively treat the middle portion of the face, including the cheek and nasolabial area.

Full Facelift

A full facelift is generally best for patients who are slightly older and want to refresh their entire face from chin to brow. Your plastic surgeon, Dr. Roth will go over all of the options with you in detail to help you make a decision on the proper steps to take.

Medications are typically given to help administer comfort in getting ready for your facelift. Based on the degree of change that you’d like to see, your rhytidectomy plastic surgeon will often begin to make an incision along your hairline at the temples. The incision will continue to the ear and end in the lower scalp. Skin is then redraped and the excess skin is trimmed away. The incision will then be closed with sutures. Once the sutures heal- the scars will blend into the hairline and contours of face and ear. There are some patients that choose to go with the mini-facelift only. A mini-facelift addresses the wrinkles and extra skin, but requires less and smaller incisions.

Dr. Roth works to tighten and contour your face to give it a natural look and helping you achieve your goals with beautiful results.

Recovery From A Facelift Procedure:

A bandage may be placed around your face by your plastic surgeon to reduce and minimize the swelling and bruising that you may experience after surgery. Dr. Roth will go over all the detailed and specific instructions on how to care for the surgical site. You may need to apply medications/take medications orally. That is why it is very important to go over your health history chart with your plastic surgeon.

As you recover from your facelift, it is very important to keep your face protected from the sun. Bruising and swelling are normal after a rhytidectomy and you will reach the peak about two days after the facelift. You will see the difference about 10-14 days after your plastic surgery.
